To find out more about a typical celebration of International Wheelchair Day, please watch the short video above. It features the celebration held in March 2018 at Gildacre Fields Independent Living Complex in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear in the United Kingdom.
The complex is part of Housing & Care 21, who were very supportive of the event and keen to encourage other centres they own to celebrate the Day in 2019, as like at Gildacre, there are many wheelchair users who live in their complexes.
The organisers were delighted that children from Southwick Community Primary School also participated and it is hoped many more schools can be involved in celebrating International Wheelchair Day all over the World in the future.
They were also grateful to support from Sunderland City Council and delighted that The Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Doris McKnight was in attendance.
